What Is JustMarkets MetaTrader 5 — Why It Is the Recommended Platform in 2026

MetaTrader 5 (MT5) is the successor to MT4, developed by MetaQuotes and released in 2010. It is a multi-asset platform designed for forex, CFDs, stocks, futures, and more — with more analytical tools, faster backtesting, and capabilities that MT4 lacks entirely. JustMarkets offers MT5 free to all account holders on all four account types.

In 2026, MT5 has reached a tipping point in adoption — for the first time, new MT5 user registrations are approaching MT4 levels. For traders starting fresh with no legacy MQL4 ecosystem, MT5 is the recommended choice. The only reason to choose MT4 over MT5 in 2026 is if you have existing MQL4 Expert Advisors that cannot be ported to MQL5.

MT5 Features That MT4 Does Not Have

21 timeframes — vs 9 on MT4

MT4 provides 9 timeframes: M1, M5, M15, M30, H1, H4, D1, W1, MN1. MT5 includes all 9 MT4 timeframes plus 12 additional: M2, M3, M4, M6, M10, M12, M20, H2, H3, H6, H8, H12. The additional intermediate timeframes are particularly useful for traders who find M15 too short but H1 too long — H2 or H3 fills the gap precisely.

Built-in economic calendar

MT5 includes a live economic calendar tab directly inside the platform. You can see upcoming economic events, their expected impact, and historical results without leaving MT5. MT4 has no built-in calendar — traders must switch to a separate browser tab for economic data. For news traders, this integration eliminates a critical workflow gap.

Depth of Market (DOM) — Level II pricing

MT5 includes a Depth of Market panel showing bid and ask quantities at each price level from liquidity providers. This Level II pricing view allows assessment of liquidity depth before entering large positions — useful for institutional-style trading and understanding real order flow.

Faster multi-currency EA backtesting

MT4's Strategy Tester tests one currency pair at a time using a single processing thread. MT5's Strategy Tester uses multiple threads and can test an EA across a portfolio of instruments simultaneously. A backtest that takes 4 hours on MT4 may complete in under 20 minutes on MT5 with equivalent hardware. For algorithmic traders who backtest frequently, this difference is significant.

38 built-in indicators — vs 30 on MT4

MT5 includes 8 additional built-in technical indicators beyond MT4's 30, and 44 graphical objects vs MT4's 31. The MQL5 marketplace (the MT5 equivalent of the MQL4 marketplace) has grown significantly and now includes thousands of custom indicators and EAs.

Stock CFD support

MT5 natively supports trading of individual stock CFDs — Apple, Amazon, Tesla, Microsoft, and hundreds of others. MT4 has limited native support for stock CFDs. JustMarkets offers stock CFDs on MT5 accounts.

Expert Advisors on JustMarkets MT5 — MQL5 Language

MT5 uses MQL5, an object-oriented programming language based on C++. MQL5 EAs are more powerful than MQL4 — multi-threaded execution, more data access, and faster processing. JustMarkets allows all MQL5 EA strategies on MT5.

MQL4 EAs are NOT compatible with MT5. MT4 and MT5 use different programming languages. An MQL4 EA cannot be run on MT5 without being rewritten in MQL5. If you have MQL4 EAs and want to use them, use MT4. For new EA development in 2026, MQL5 on MT5 is the recommended path.
