What Is JustMarkets MetaTrader 4 — Why It Remains the World's Most Used Platform in 2026

MetaTrader 4 (MT4) was developed by MetaQuotes Software and released in 2005. After more than 20 years, it remains the most widely installed retail forex trading platform globally. JustMarkets offers MT4 free for all account holders on all four account types — Standard Cent, Standard, Pro, and Raw Spread — with no platform subscription or usage fees.

MT4's enduring dominance comes from three factors: stability (it runs on minimal hardware, does not crash during high volatility), the enormous MQL4 ecosystem (thousands of custom indicators and Expert Advisors built over two decades), and familiarity (most forex traders have learned on MT4 and find it intuitive).

MT4 vs MT5: MT4 is better if you have existing MQL4 EAs or indicators, prefer a lighter platform, or trade forex/CFDs only and find 9 timeframes sufficient. MT5 is better for new traders in 2026, traders who want more timeframes, DOM panel, or stock CFD access. Full comparison: MT4 vs MT5 guide.

Open MT4 and click File → Login to Trade Account
On desktop. On mobile, tap the three-line menu or account icon in the top right corner.

This is the numeric trading ID — not your email address. It was sent to your email when the trading account was created. Also visible in your Personal Area under Accounts.
03
Enter your trading password
This is the trading password from the credentials email. Different from your Personal Area password. If forgotten, reset it in Personal Area → Accounts → Change Password.
04
Search for and select your JustMarkets server
Click the server dropdown and type 'JustMarkets' in the search box. A list of JustMarkets servers appears. Select the one matching your Personal Area account details — typically 'JustMarkets-Live' or 'JustMarkets-Live2'.

Click Login (or OK)
MT4 connects and displays your account balance, open positions, and full instrument list. Connection may take 5–10 seconds.
If you cannot find the JustMarkets server: Download the MT4 installer directly from JustMarkets website — it comes pre-loaded with JustMarkets server addresses. Downloading MT4 from MetaQuotes' general website will not include JustMarkets servers by default.

MT4 Key Features for Forex and CFD Trading

Charting and technical analysis

MT4 provides 9 timeframes: M1, M5, M15, M30, H1, H4, D1, W1, and MN1. You can display multiple charts simultaneously — one for each currency pair or timeframe. The platform includes 30+ built-in technical indicators covering trend, oscillator, volume, and Bill Williams categories. Custom indicators can be added from the MQL4 community or created in the MQL4 language.

Order types

MT4 supports six order types: Market Order (immediate execution at current price), Buy Limit, Sell Limit, Buy Stop, Sell Stop (four pending order types), and Stop Loss/Take Profit attached to any open position. All order types are available on JustMarkets MT4.

Strategy Tester for EA backtesting

The MT4 Strategy Tester (Tools → Strategy Tester) allows backtesting of Expert Advisors against historical price data. Testing is single-threaded — one currency pair tested at a time. For complex multi-currency EA testing, MT5's multi-threaded tester is significantly faster.

Expert Advisors (EAs) on JustMarkets MT4 — Full Support

JustMarkets allows all trading strategies on MT4 including scalping, hedging, news trading, and fully automated Expert Advisors. There are no EA restrictions on any account type.

01
Obtain your EA file (.ex4 format)
Purchase from MQL4 Marketplace, receive from a developer, or code it yourself in MQL4 language.
02
Place the file in MT4's Experts folder
In MT4: File → Open Data Folder → MQL4 → Experts. Copy your .ex4 file here.
03
Restart MT4 or refresh the Navigator
After placing the file: right-click in the Navigator panel (left side) → Refresh. Your EA appears under Expert Advisors.
04
Drag the EA onto a chart
Drag the EA from Navigator onto the chart of the instrument you want to trade. A settings window appears.
05
Configure EA settings and enable auto-trading
Set your EA parameters, allow live trading in the settings, and ensure the auto-trading button (top toolbar) is enabled in green. The EA is now running.
EAs require MT4 desktop to be running. If you close MT4, EAs stop executing. For 24/5 automated trading without keeping your computer on, consider a Virtual Private Server (VPS) — JustMarkets offers VPS solutions from their website.

JustMarkets MT4 Web Trader — Trade Without Downloading

The MT4 Web Trader allows you to access your JustMarkets account from any browser on any device — Windows, Mac, iOS, Android, Linux, Chromebook — without installing the MT4 application. Log in using your account number, trading password, and select your JustMarkets server.

Web Trader includes the core MT4 functionality: charts, one-click trading, open/close positions, and basic order management. It does not support Expert Advisors or custom indicators — for EA trading, the desktop version is required.

When to Use MT4 vs MT5 on JustMarkets — Decision Framework

Choose MT4 if you: have existing MQL4 EAs or indicators that cannot be easily ported; prefer a lighter, more stable platform; primarily trade forex and gold; find 9 timeframes sufficient; value the larger MQL4 community marketplace.

Choose MT5 if you: are starting fresh with no existing EA library; want 21 timeframes including H2, H3, H6, H8, H12; want the built-in economic calendar without switching tabs; want Depth of Market for liquidity analysis; want faster multi-currency EA backtesting.
